Tarımus Wasn't Born as a Software Idea — It Was Born from the Field.
Agriculture is one of the sectors most directly hit by climate change, yet one of the most fragmented in data. Every parcel carries its own reality; we make that reality measurable with science, at parcel scale — so institutions can make the right decision on this ground, and nature comes out ahead of those decisions too. Field, academia and engineering at the same table.
The Team Behind Tarımus.
Years in the field, academic depth and end-to-end engineering — Tarımus was born at the intersection of four founders' different worlds.
Prof. Dr. Kürşat Demiryürek
Co-Founder & Scientific Advisor
One of Tarımus's co-founders, Prof. Dr. Kürşat Demiryürek is a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ondokuz Mayıs University; he completed his bachelor's and master's at Ankara University and his PhD at the University of Reading in England, on agricultural knowledge systems for organic and conventional hazelnut producers in Türkiye. Over a career spanning more than a quarter-century he has led numerous research and development projects supported by TÜBİTAK, DPT and BAP as well as the European Union, UNDP and FAO, producing pioneering work in the economics of organic agriculture, agricultural extension and the diffusion of innovation among producers. At Tarımus he uses this background to shape the platform's producer-centered foundation of agricultural knowledge systems and technology adoption. DronGelsin — the venture he co-founded with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kahramanoğlu and which remains active — carried out the KOSGEB-supported project "Actuarial Calculation of Income Insurance through Farmland Valuation and Land-Productivity Forecast Modeling," and today handles the operational side of Tarımus's field verification and producer communication — the field counterpart of his academic expertise in agricultural extension.
Ömür Karabulut
Founder
Entrepreneur and full-stack developer. He left programs in naval architecture and marine engineering, civil engineering and agricultural engineering to take up entrepreneurship; today he is a student again — but this time in the field he has actually practiced for years: international entrepreneurship.
His first stop was Melanthios Bitkisel Araştırma ve Üretim Ltd., founded together with Esra Tepikoğlu. He launched two ventures — one on using cannabinoids derived from industrial hemp as a starting material in herbal-product manufacturing, and one on phytomilk production — and worked with the Cannabis Institute on machine-learning-assisted plant breeding. Both ventures ended before commercializing — but it was here that he first brought agriculture and artificial intelligence to the same table.
He then founded Truffle Savoury for the truffle trade. He searched for truffles with his dogs across more than 40 provinces, and still runs the brand today, from sourcing to export. The turning point came during these years in the field: he discovered that truffle locations leave recurring patterns in geospatial data — he learned to find, with the pattern of data, what the dog's nose had found. This discovery led him to go deep on how such data could be used in agriculture; he carried out the DOKAP-supported "Spreading Truffle Cultivation in Hazelnut Orchards" and the UNDP-supported "Digitalization in Hazelnut and Truffle Integration" projects.
Tarımus is where this journey arrives: he designed and built — end to end, from architecture to code — the platform that turns geospatial data into agricultural decisions. Tarımus was born not as a software idea, but as a discovery from the field.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kahramanoğlu
Co-Founder & Scientific Advisor
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kahramanoğlu is a faculty member in the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Sciences at the Bafra Faculty of Business, Ondokuz Mayıs University. He works in insurance, actuarial science, risk management, insurance accounting and financial reporting standards (IFRS 4 / IFRS 17). DronGelsin — the venture he co-founded with Prof. Dr. Kürşat Demiryürek and which remains active — carried out, under his direction, the KOSGEB-supported project "Actuarial Calculation of Income Insurance through Farmland Valuation and Land-Productivity Forecast Modeling"; as a continuation of this work, which maps directly onto Tarımus's technical foundation, DronGelsin today provides field verification of the platform's satellite-based forecasts and direct communication with producers. As Tarımus's co-founder and scientific advisor, he leads the scientific side of the actuarial modeling of agricultural risk and of the insurance and TSRS-compliance dimension.
Esra Tepikoğlu
Co-Founder
Agricultural economist and entrepreneur. She completed her master's in agricultural economics and is pursuing her PhD in the same field at Ondokuz Mayıs University. She is a co-founder of Melanthios Bitkisel Araştırma ve Üretim Ltd. and of the Truffle Savoury brand; under Truffle Savoury she continues to trade truffles and truffle products today — including export and the import of processed goods.
She is a partner in the DOKAP-supported project "Spreading Truffle Cultivation in Hazelnut Orchards" and the UNDP-supported "Digitalization in Hazelnut and Truffle Integration," and worked on the BAP project "The State and Economic Analysis of Truffle Foraging in Türkiye." Her academic work concentrates at the intersection of high-value food markets, the truffle economy and agricultural policy, including the papers "Regulatory Gaps in High-Value Food Markets: A Comparative Analysis of Truffle Policies" and "The Economic Opportunities and Constraints of Cultivating Truffles by Inoculating Hazelnut Orchards."
She is currently working on a paper titled "Who Owns Carbon?", addressing the question of whom agricultural carbon belongs to — a question at the very center of Tarımus's carbon and sustainability reporting vision. At Tarımus she shapes the platform's sustainability and policy side with her background in agricultural economics, regulation and carbon policy.
